Late again.

Well that's another month between blogs,must do better;anyway things are changing all the time now although the hot spell hasn't been kind to some of the shade and moist soil lovers with the Rogersias,Trollius and especially an Impatiens suffering the most.Others though have loved it with the Cannas putting on strong growth and the bananas and now Dahlias too;the Lilies have put on a show and now the Hemoracallis are flowering freely.
 Anyway less waffle and some pics I hope someone(somewhere!) will enjoy.

Wide angle

Just a pic taken a couple of week-ends ago of the view from our back bedroom window with a wide-angle lens;gives a good view of 'The Estate'.

Beeches nursery and Scotsdales gc visit

Took a trip out to the village of Ashdon near Saffron Walden to the excellent Beeches Nursery for our annual visit;unsurprisingly money was spent as they always have something to catch the eye with a wide range of plants for various uses.
Also on the way back we stopped at Scotsdales garden centre in Cambridge;although like most of it's ilk there's plenty of nasty tat on display they still have a good selection of plants and some good offers too.We had a voucher so we took advantage of an offer on Yorkshire terracotta pots.

Better get the card flexing!

You're being watched!

Bright things!

Sunday 23 June 2013

At last a June post!

For a few reasons(a virus,work and actually doing gardening)I've not posted for a while so a little resume to get back on track.
Everything is finally growing well with the Bananas and Cannas putting on good growth,the Dahlias bushing out and annuals growing well;even had a first complete meal from the veg plot yesterday with new 'tats(although a bit small),carrots,peas and broad beans.
Most of the tender stuff has come through the winter well with the Ensete and Hedychiums really putting on strong growth;the only casualties have been a few Begonia tubers and three Cannas, a General Eisenhower had the Canna virus and two musifolias have just rotted although that may have been watering at the wrong time.
So I'll leave it at that for now and just let the garden show itself off;

Definately spring

Well it's been a nice day in the garden,mostly spent thinning out some of the Bamboos(lot's of cursing and cut hands)but I managed to take a few pics to show how fast things are moving now.

Dicentra spectabilis

Acer palmatum Bloodgood
Garden's really starting to look good now with everything seemingly trying to make up for lost time and there seems to be a never-ending stream of seedlings to put-up with Cannas,Ricinus and Dahlias needing attention and all the Gingers and Canna rhizomes and Dahlia tubers sprouting and growing for all their worth;it's going to be a busy month!
Must go wine,cheese and MotoGP beckons and I need some rest before tackling some more 'boos tomorrow and digging up some old reluctant Honeysuckles.

Scorchio!

The weather station sensor has now been re-positioned,don't think this was an accurate reading:

It was hot in there but not nearly 51c!

Some recent photos

Things are moving along nicely now and new plants are arriving what seems like daily(although I did order them so should not be surprised),so I thought I'd update with a few photos;
